Leave a Legacy That Sustains Indigenous Culture

Leave a Legacy That Sustains Indigenous Culture

At the Museum of Indigenous People, planned giving is a meaningful way to support our mission—to instill understanding and respect for the Indigenous cultures of the Southwest—while creating a lasting legacy for you and your family.

While grants help fund specific projects, long-term sustainability depends on stable, forward-looking support. Like many successful nonprofit organizations, MIP maintains an endowment fund designed to provide dependable income year after year, ensuring the museum can continue to serve future generations.

Why an Endowment Matters

An endowment is a long-term investment fund that supports the museum’s ongoing operations, programs, and care of its collections. Although MIP established an endowment several years ago, growing this fund is essential to generating reliable income that strengthens our financial future.

By contributing to the endowment, you help ensure:

  • Long-term stability for the museum

  • Continued exhibitions, education, and cultural programming

  • Stewardship of a growing collection dating back to 1921

Your gift continues working far beyond today.

A Legacy for Your Family, A Future for MIP

Planned gifts are a powerful way to align your personal values with long-term impact. A legacy gift allows your generosity to support Indigenous art, culture, and education well into the future—while honoring your family’s commitment to community and culture.

Many supporters choose to include MIP in their estate planning, ensuring their support lives on for generations.

IRA Charitable Giving (Age 73+)

If you are age 73 or older, IRS Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) rules allow you to make direct charitable contributions from your IRA or other tax-deferred retirement accounts without incurring income tax on the withdrawal.

This tax advantage applies to gifts made to MIP, including—but not limited to—the endowment fund. Many donors find this option both simple and highly beneficial at tax time.

Your financial advisor or investment institution can help provide the required IRS documentation. Contributions must be completed by year’s end.

Recognition & Stewardship

Planned giving donors are recognized on the museum’s Honor Roll of Donors, celebrating those whose generosity helps secure MIP’s future. All gifts—large or small—are deeply appreciated and handled with care and respect.
